In this video I explain the very basics including how to hold the yarn and create tension, a yarn over and a very basic stitch, the chain stitch.
Yarn over is often written in patterns like this: yo
Chain stitch is written: Ch
Slip stitch: sl
However, there are now visual instructions for crocheting that are very cool! Here is an example from make and take
