The Green Drink

Dear Daughter,

I was trying to be a nice Mom today.  I decided not to enter the bus in my pj’s with bed head to make you drink your green drink!  Next time I may not be so nice.

P.S.  I’m sure I gave all your friends on the bus a good, hearty laugh for the bus ride to school.

Love,
Mom.  xoxo

It was quite a hilarious morning, that I’m sure made the neighbor kids grateful to be my neighbors and not my children!

As for my children . . . well let’s just say they will agree that our lives are NOT boring!

My behavior this fateful morning was rooted in a weekend of overindulgence . . . let me explain.

Candy, cookies, ice cream, we had all had way too much and in the back of my mind I was envisioning another month of sick kids and grouchy days.  I frantically took the remains of chocolate chip cookies, chocolate covered graham crackers and leftover frosting and condemned them to the freezer.

Whew!  I felt better.  Relieved to think that maybe I could avoid a houseful of colds and coughing by putting it all out of sight, I felt better.

Groggy eyed and not so awake, I began to drone on in my usual way.  “Come, on girls lets get going.  The bus will be here soon.”

I had just began to deliver my usual speech about staying healthy.  You know, the one about drinking water and staying away from sugar, when one of my girls walked in with a frozen cookie!

What did I do?

Knowing the bus would arrive in less than five minutes, I frantically ran to the kitchen, threw the fridge door open, grabbed the container of pre prepped juicing items and began to make a green drink.

My juicer was a hummn’!  In no time at all I had four beautiful glasses of green juice setting on the counter and I proclaimed, “All children would drink this fabulously healthy boost of vitamins before they entered that bus”!

With only a wee bit of grumbling they obeyed, all but the one that had been eating the cookie!  That sugar lovin’ bugger had made a “b-line” for the bus!  I just knew she thought if only she could make it to the bus before I made it to her she would be safe.

What did I do?

I grabbed up her glass of glorious green health, shoved the other girls out of the way and bolted out the door after her!

Pj’s, bed head and all, there I went holding the glass above my head hollering, “come here, you!  You’re gonna drink this”!

Oh.  I’m sure it was a site, and she only ran to the bus faster!  I caught a small glimpse of a few of the astonished kids on the bus, eyes big as saucers and gasping in wonder of what I would do!

What did I do?

Well, I had determined to climb up in the bus and make her drink her juice.  As I approached the open doors of the tall, yellow bus, to my surprise, it was not our regular bus driver.  For a split second I weighed my options.  Do I explain to the driver and go up and make her drink it? I smiled and said, “good morning”.

Still holding the glass of green juice above my head, the bus driver said, “hello”, but his eyes said, “lady you are nuts”!

My hesitation made my decision.  I took a step back as the other girls hopped on in front of me and quickly took their seats.

The bus slowly began to move away and as it did I pointed to my daughter and then to the glass of juice and glared, as to say, “You little stinker!  You got away with it today”.

What did she do?

The little lady just snickered and waved goodbye.

I stood there for a moment, holding the juice above my head, in a pose much like the Statue of Liberty, as the bus rounded the corner and started up the hill.

Until next time,

We Love to Hear From You
